FAITH

'For many years in my own pilgrimage of seeking to come to a place of trusting God at all times - I am still far from the end of that journey - I was a prisoner to my feelings. I mistakenly thought I could not trust God unless I felt like trusting him (which I almost never did during times of adversity). Now I am learning that trusting God is first of all a matter of the will, and it is not dependent on my feelings. I choose to trust God and my feelings eventually follow.'
Jerry Bridges in Nancy Guthrie (Ed.), Be Still My Soul, p.110.

GRACE

'...who needs grace? All of us, the saint as well as the sinner. The most conscientious, dutiful, hardworking, Christian needs God's grace as much as the most dissolute, hard-living sinner. All of us need the same grace. The sinner does not need more grace than the saint, nor does the immature and undisciplined believer need more than the godly, zealous missionary. We all need the same ammount of grace because the "currency" of our good works is debased and worthless before God.'
Jerry Bridges, Transforming Grace: Living Confidently in God's Unfailing Love, p.32.

GRACE

'Your worse days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace.'
Jerry Bridges in Andrew Farmer, The Rich Single Life, p.25.

ANXIETY

'Suppose someone you love were to say to you, "I don't trust you. I don't believe you love me and will care for me." What an affront that would be to you! Yet that is what we are saying to God by our anxiety.'
Jerry Bridges, Respectable Sins: Confronting the Sins We Tolerate, p. 64.
